Genre research: Psychological thriler

Colours used in a psychological thriller are mainly; red, black and white. The colours black and red help connote danger, violence, brutality, blood, evil and mystery within the film, whereas white may suggest hope for the 'victim within the psychological thriller.

Low key lighting is also used to around main characters to create an enigma and mystery. This is because the audience will wonder who the character is in the shadows and what are they doing. The background of the set is also often dark to emphasis the enigma, as well as to create an unsettling atmosphere and to build tension within the audience.
