Todorov's theory of equilibrium:
This theory states that most story lines follow the same plot pattern, this pattern involves five steps:
the first step in this theory is equilibrium, this means that the first part of the story would start of happy and 'normal' and the characters are content with the things that are happening.
The next step is disruption this part of the storyline where something happens, that would have a negative effect on the characters.
the next part of this theory is realisation. This is where the characters identify the problem and all of the trouble that it has caused.
The order is then restored within the film, and the characters repair the damage in order to create a new equilibrium.
The final part of the film will show the new equilibrium in action, so the characters would be happy again, and normality would be resumed.
