The sound is an important factor as it can help the audience understands what is going on as because whether it is diegetic or non-diegetic it can match with the shots on the screen and that helps the audience to see what is going on better.


As in the classic scene from psycho while we don't see the woman being stabbed until she is dead. the pace of the music is what tells the audience what is going on, the man who uses the knife is doing it in time with the music we hear so as the screech sound gets faster it is clear what has happened then it slows to a deep sound when the camera focuses on the woman.
