Opening titles research: individual

The opening titles I'm looking at in more detail is the walking dead season 3, is a horror drama, which links to the general genre that our film is, the titles were created by yU+co who have done titles for other horror films so it understands the conventions. As I have watched the show I understand that there are certain things in shots that link to characters on the show, such as the badge or the arrows so they have to be focused in shot.

Cinematography
There are shots that wipe across the screen and focus on one thing closer to the screen so there is a shallow depth of focus, it also focuses on certain objects in a derelict house like the curtains this would be similar to when we have the canvas in the opening of our film.

Editing
To match the music that is being played each shot of the titles is only on for a few seconds as they show things about the show such as the close-up of the eye, this will be similar to our opening titles as we will focus on things in a shot that will look like blood but then it pans to find that it is paint as the art studio is the main setting of the film.

Music
The music used in the titles is heavily using strings like violins that are fast paced and gradually getting louder as the titles go on, they match the editing so that it fits together better as if the shots were slower it wouldn't look right, this is something we could use on our titles as it is a good technique to match the shots to the music.

Mise-en-scene
The titles are all showing parts of a post apocalyptic world which as the show is watched shows is full of zombies, there are props specific to characters such as the badge and the arrows and then the setting shows where they are and what it looks like after the event that has happened. The titles do show what is happening in the series so they are easy to follow this is something we will use in our opening titles as we want it to show where it will be and the context of the film without giving away too much.
