Typical characters in a psychological thriller

During genre research for psychological thrillers I decided to look at typical characters of the genre, as I wanted to ensure that we incorporated the right character types.

From my research I found that the following character types were common in psychological thrillers;

• Convicts
• Criminals
• Stalkers
• Assassins
• Down-on-their-luck 'losers'
• Innocent victims
• Prison inmates
• Menaced women
• Characters with a dark past
• Psychotic individuals
• Terrorists
• Police/ form of authority
• Escaped convicts
• Fugitives
• Drifters
• Individuals involved in bad relationships
