Film Poster Analysis

Film posters are used as an effective form of visual advertisement, they rely on several key features in order to appeal to the audience through the use of a static image. 

These features include...
Image:
 Every poster includes one or more prominent images from the film such a shot of the protagonist, group shot of all the major characters, or a significant prop/location that is representative of the film. These images are often edited using photoshop from screen shots directly taken from a important scene in the film or images from post-production photo-shoots of the cast.

Colour scheme:
the colour scheme of the poster complies with the films genre, with specific colour pallets often being representative to a specific genre, for example red and black is a commonly used for Horrors/thrillers.

Texts (colour schemes/fonts):
the colour schemes and font used on movie posters, are also used in relation to the films genre, posters often use bold fonts and bright colours that stand off the background image in order to draw attention to the information presented and make it clear so it can be easily read. The font used for the films title on the poster is usually the same font used for the title sequence on the actually film to create consistency.

Movie slogans:
many posters also include a slogan for the film, which is often either a quotation or a statement relating to the story, that is used as a way to present the main theme of the film in a simplistic manner.

Ratings-reviews:
many posters feature ratings or reviews as a way of persuading people to see the movie, they often have 'star ratings' and exerts from reviews that are given by critics, and these give a general idea of how good the film is.
Other information:
films posters also include, the release date, the name of the leading actor/well known actors within the film, the name of the director and occasionally other 'popular' films they have produced that would be easily recognisable, website addresses, the films certificate and pre-cinema reales posters commonly feature awards and nominations awarded to the film.
