How We Made The Opening Title Sequence

MAKING THE OPENING TITLE SEQUENCE

We used the program Sony Movie Studio HD Pro Platinum 11 to create the opening title sequence; this is because it has a wider range of effects and options for editing styles than Final Cut Express, so it made creating a fast-paced opening title sequence easier.

Here is a screenshot of Sony Movie Studio with the title sequence open;

It took six layers/tracks of video files and four layers/tracks of sound files to create the final video, and it took 3 hours to render in 1080p WMV format.
Here are the steps I took to make the sequence;
  • Film the shots needed for the sequence, which included the book, knives, close-ups of eyes, a candle being lit, and underwater shots of fake blood being poured into a sink.
  • The underwater shot was filmed using a GoPro camera with red acrylic paint acting as fake blood.
  • Then the sequence was edited together in time to the music, based off of the storyboard & animatic previously created.
  • This involved cutting a lot of small sections of shot and editing them together so they would flow in a fast paced way, for example, here you can most of the cuts (although some are so short that they don't show up, as they are fractions of a second long).

  • Then we added sound effects, such as book page turning sounds & heavy breathing.
  • Then it was all edited to make the contrast high and the saturation at 50%, in order to create a dark/light contrast as well as make the colours more dull.
  • Then it was rendered in 1080p WMV format.
  • Then it was re-opened in this file type and the Se7en logo sequence as well as the DNA logo sequence were added in front of it.
  • The final music was put over all 3 videos.
  • After final checks, it was then rendered for the final time in 1080p WMV, which took 3 hours.
