VIRAL ADVERTISING
I researched numerous viral advertisements in order to help with coming up with my own viral advert for our film.
TOY STORY 3
- For promotion for the movie, Pixar made and released a mock advert for the character 'Lotso-Huggin Bear'. It was edited to make it look like an old 80's style advert. This type of viral advertising is basic but effective, as adverts like this will make an audience interested as sales adverts are designed to attract an audience's attention. As the movie is aimed at children, it could also attract children into buying merchandise as well as wanting to see the film.
THE DARK KNIGHT
- In May 2007, 42 Entertainment began a viral marketing campaign utilizing the film's "Why So Serious?" tagline. It was a transmedia experiment with over 10 million participants in over 75 countries that played across hundreds of web pages, interactive games, mobile phones, print, email, real world events, videos & unique collectables. A webpage, whysoserious.com was created (here is a remake of the original website after it was took down). The Joker was used to lead a worldwide scavenger hunt for clues about the movie, which led to worldwide knowledge and hysteria over the film.
