Film poster research:

The Black Swan (2010)

This type of poster would be good for our film, as the main focus of it is the antagonist of the film. We could create this for our final film poster, as the antagonist in our film wears a mask therefore we could use this as the main focus of our film. This would also give the audience a quick preview on what the theme of the film is, as well as what the antagonist looks like in the film. I also like how the background of this poster is black as it makes the antagonist the main focus of the poster. Also because of the way the antagonist is positioned, it looks like she is looking at you, this would also draw in the audience. I also like the way in which the review for the film is down the side of the poster, this way it doesn't take too much attention away from the protagonist, but still stands out against the black background, as it is a white font.

Donnie Darko (2001)

This type of  poster would be good for our film, as the main focus of this poster is a compilation of pictures of the cast, that form the shape of the antagonist, therefore this is an effective way to show the audience the full cast before they actually see the film. I also think this is really affective as they used a filter on the compilation of pictures so they have a blue tone, this contrasts nicely with the black background of the film, so it stands out really well. I also like the way they placed the names of the actors on the top of the poster to break up the text, so it wasn't all in one place. This also ensures the main focus is on the image as it is central in the poster. This poster also stays true to its genre as it uses dark colours such as the black background, this is a common convention for psychological thrillers. Also the 'Donnie Darko text has been put in a shadowed font, shadows are also common conventions for psychological thrillers. Therefore this poster stayed true to its genre. I also like the way they have placed the social media links of the film on the bottom of the poster, this would be useful of the audience as they would be able go on to these links to see reviews from other audience members about the film, it would also allow them to have a better insight of the storyline of the film.

Paranormal Activity (2007)
This poster is good as it shows a still from the film, this would give the audience a quick insight of the storyline of the film. Also the title of the film is in a red font which is a common colour used in thrillers, and also has a shadow affect, therefore they have stuck to the common codes and conventions of a thriller. Also the black background allows both the still from the film to stand out, as well as the information/ text on the poster to stand out. Also at the top of the poster there is a positive review for the film, this would make the audience viewing the poster want to see the film more.
